Yaqub was never the average child ever since I was changing his diapers & reading him bedtime stories. The moment I truly realized this was the night of his candle light vigil. The way that his friends spoke of him and shared the many experiences they had with him, I knew that my brother left this earth making a lasting impression.
Early on, my baby brother showed us all that he was special. He was so affectionate; I will forever miss those random foot rubs and back massages. Can you believe I NEVER had to ask? He was so full of charisma that he stole the dance floor at a community block party when he was a small child!
The many qualities of Yaqub were a result of invested parents, a close-knit and loving family, and most importantly, being exposed to extracurricular activities. Qubby, as I always called him, was the most well-rounded kid out of all our parent’s children. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, gaming,

football, basketball, soccer, karate, dancing and much more! Many educators believe that extracurricular activities are an essential element of a child’s overall development. It helps [children] socialize and work as a team.
Yaqub was very understanding of his peers, maintained a balanced academic and social life, and was impactful to any community to which he belonged. I wish our youth had access to even half of the activities that Qubby did.
